Acne in Males

Men all around the world suffer from male acne and live through the embarrassment that it brings.  Regardless of whether you are a male or a female, the cause for acne is essentially the same:  raised hormone levels.  The rise in hormone levels increases the production of body oil which leads to clogging of the skin pores.  Oil, along with other materials such as dead skin cells trapped in pores, ultimately lead to the formation of acne.  Adult
male acne is less common than adult female acne and tends to appear more on the face, back, chest and neck, rather than just on the face as in the case of female acne sufferers.
Male acne can be caused by performance enhancing drugs such as anabolic steroids, vigorous exercise, shaving or poor nutrition and a weak immune system:

Performance enhancing drugs can upset the hormonal balance and can lead to acne.  The male sex hormone called “androgen” is the biggest culprit of the forming of acne.  Men with acne normally tend to have much higher levels of the androgen hormone.

Male athletes often suffer from acne, because of the heat, sweat and friction of clothes on the skin during intense exercise.

A lack of vitamins and minerals and a weak immune system can trigger the sebaceous gland to produce excessive sebum resulting in acne.  It is also believed that anxiety and stress play a role in forming male adult acne.

Shaving can also cause male acne and can make existing acne much worse as the blades can cut or nick pimples, an electric razor or safety razor may be less irritating than a traditional blade, always make sure that the blades are sharp.
